The Keough-Naughton Institute's 2024-2025 National Endowment for the Humanities Fellow, Dr. Lia Brazil (European University Institute in Florence), will deliver the lecture entitled "International Law and Human Rights in Irish History, 1916-1950."
Lia Brazil is the National Endowment for the Humanities Visiting Faculty Fellow at the Keough-Naughton Institute, University of Notre Dame, for the year 2024-2025. At Notre Dame, she is exploring the history of human rights and prison activism, by thinking about Ireland in a global context. Her wider research focuses on histories of international law, humanitarianism and human rights during times of war and upheaval. Her previous work has examined these themes in the British Empire, with particular focus on Ireland and South Africa. She completed her PhD at the European University Institute, Florence and before arriving at Notre Dame she worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Nuffield College, University of Oxford.
This is an annual event sponsored by the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Keough-Naughton Institute for Irish Studies.
