Notre Dame Global and Nanovic Institute launch EU Scholars Program

Notre Dame Dublin teamed up with the Nanovic Institute to co-create the EU Scholars Program, a semester long course that aims to deepen Notre Dame students’ understanding of the European Union while they are studying in Europe. The program included a remote "EU 101" course organized by the Nanovic Institute alongside on-site and country-specific lectures at Notre Dame Dublin and Notre Dame Rome. The program culminated in a four day immersion trip to Brussels over the students' fall break.
A select group of seven students studying abroad in Rome and two student studying in Dublin had the chance to spend the first half of the semester meeting with experts from the political, non-governmental, and private sectors, learning about the role of the European Union.
At the end of October, the students traveled to Brussels for an immersive study trip, during which they visited the European Parliament, European Commission, and several European agencies. Outside of the European Union and its institutions, the students learned from the actors in the wider "Brussels Bubble," including journalists at the Politico Newsrooms, lobbyists and EU policy analyists at Microsoft, and diplomats at the Ukrainian Embassy and the US Mission to the European Union.
After the successful pilot program, Notre Dame Rome and Notre Dame Dublin Dublin, alongside the Nanovic Institute, will be offering another EU Scholars program and immersion experience in the Spring of 2024. Notre Dame London will join as the newest partner in this pan-European programming.
