Caroline Long is a Naughton Fellow pursuing a masters in Structural and Geotechnical Engineering at Trinity College Dublin. Her dissertation at Trinity will be focused on the structural validation and accuracy of inverted hanging chain models in predicting load paths and thrust lines within compression-only structures.
Caroline’s experience spans structural design, project engineering, modular construction research, and historic restoration studies. She has developed these skills through internships and research positions with organizations such as Thornton Tomasetti, Ryan Companies, University College Dublin, and the Nanovic Institute.
In her structural engineering roles, she has reviewed steel and reinforced concrete submittals, performed design calculations, and supported advanced material testing. Her project engineering work includes tasks such as bid analysis, subcontractor coordination, drafting project documents, and managing ongoing construction updates. Caroline has also contributed to academic research focused on innovative self-supporting structural systems, further strengthening her technical foundation and curiosity for solving complex engineering problems.
Caroline will be returning to Chicago in the fall of 2026 to work on the structures team at Thornton Tomasetti where she is excited to put her structural skills and understanding to practice.
Caroline is a member of the Notre Dame Dublin part-time staff where he assists with front of house duties and event management at O'Connell House.
