Aoife-Marie Buckley is the Assistant Director for Learning and Research at Notre Dame Dublin and Curator of the O’Connell House Collections.
Buckley teaches the interdisciplinary Irish history and culture course, Introduction to Ireland, for the fall and spring semester Dublin study abroad programs. Her teaching introduces practices of close-looking and incorporates a broad understanding of pedagogical sources in considering how art and artefacts might “instruct.”
As assistant director, she also develops Notre Dame Dublin's academic programs with local partner and cultural institutions, as well as visiting faculty and scholars from the University.
Buckley was most recently the Donald and Marilyn Keough Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Notre Dame’s Raclin Murphy Museum of Art, tasked with the design and delivery of a selection of digital research projects relating to the permanent collections. At Notre Dame, as Term Assistant Teaching Professor for the Institute of Educational Initiatives she developed an art historical class for the Education, Schooling, and Society program which utilised the rich array of campus collections and archives.
Previously the Donald and Marilyn Keough Curatorial Fellow, she co-curated the monographic exhibition of Irish art Homecoming: Walter Osborne’s Portraits of Dublin, 1880–1900, which ran for the fall 2025 semester at the Raclin Murphy Museum of Art. In addition, she copy-edited and contributed to the accompanying exhibition catalogue and was responsible for the provenance research throughout.
Buckley was the inaugural Trinity College Dublin and National Gallery of Ireland Doctoral Fellow from 2019 to 2024. Throughout her PhD, she was a Trinity Irish Art Research Centre (TRIARC) Resident Fellow, where she wrote her doctoral dissertation on the architectural history of the various edifices of the National Gallery of Ireland since its foundation. She continues to lecture on the subject and gives specialised architectural tours from this research.
She was awarded her Ph.D. in Art and Architectural History from Trinity College Dublin, and her M.A. in Art History and B.S. in Architecture from University College Dublin.
